Evanna Lynch my be the most famous Potter Fan in the world. Her casting in the Harry Potter series came much later than most of the supporting cast of Hogwarts students, most of whom were cast around the age of nine, in the very first film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s (Sorcerer’s) Stone in 2000. Lynch’s character, Luna, on the other hand, doesn’t arrive until five books (and movies) in, with Harry Potter and the Order of The Phoenix. As a superfan at the exact right age for the role, Lynch famously walked into her audition wearing full cosplay, and her vision of the character cinched her the part and shaped the on screen portrayal.
Since then, Lynch has always been one of the media’s go-to stars of the movie franchise, since she knows the Potterverse better than any other actor involved. So it’s not surprising that when she made an appearance this weekend at the New York City Half Marathon, where she was running to raise awareness for World Animal Protection, the subject of the latest movie, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was one of the first things she was asked about.
Talking to People Magazine, she said “I am so excited. Those are my two favorite things: animals and Harry Potter.”
“Eddie Redmayne is going to be fantastic! He’s definitely a wizard. I do get a little bit jealous when I think of them filming right now. I miss it!”

It turns out she did hope a little for a part–after all, Luna did go on to marry Rolf Scamander, who is Newt’s grandson. Not to mention the film is directed by David Yates, who was the one to cast her in his first go round on the Potter wheel in Order of the Phoenix. Perhaps she might be considered for a cameo appearance down the line in a later installment of the trilogy?
“I’m just waiting for the call! Fans have been concocting all these scenarios where Luna narrates the film. As if telling it to her children or grandchildren. They didn’t go that direction.”
Lynch is currently starring in My Name is Emily, which she has been nominated for Best Actress at the Irish Film Awards. The film is still on the indie circuit, and she recently appeared in Texas to promote it at the Victoria Film Festival. When asked, she said she would love to do more Irish based films. “I’d never done an Irish movie before. They’re stories with heart. They have to come through a lot because we have a small industry. I’m sure they hear ‘no’ a lot of times, so every story there (in Ireland) is really loved. I’d love to do that. I’d love to do historical dramas.”

Perhaps a historical drama in the Potterverse? We’ll have to see if Yates remembers to keep her in mind.
