Inferno Squad is the next Star Wars novel. Due this summer, it will follow the events after Rogue One and A New Hope from the Empire’s POV.

While the movies are easily the most profitable projects at Lucasfilm, Star Wars has other things. I mean, other things that people pay attention to, like the novels and animated series. The best testament to the success of a brand is whether they can seamlessly blend properties without making anyone who isn’t in one club feel like they’re missing out.

For example, you can watch Rogue One and see Saw Gerrera’s story unfold without having seen a single episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

However, you can’t deny that the film novelizations and companion novels help elevate and expand on certain storylines that didn’t make it to the big screen. Even if you only watch the movies. So if you felt like Rogue One‘s ending wasn’t as gratifying as you hoped, first, go watch A New Hope. Then, pick up a copy of Inferno Squad.

The newest Star Wars novel takes place after both aforementioned movies. It tells the story of the Empire’s new tactical squad. The Inferno Squad is hell-bent on redeeming the Empire after the first Death Star blows up.

Here’s the official description from Star Wars:

"The Rebellion may have heroes like Jyn Erso and Luke Skywalker. But the Empire has Inferno Squad. After the humiliating theft of the Death Star plans and the resulting destruction of the battle station, the Empire is on the defensive. In response to this stunning defeat, the Imperial Navy has authorized the formation of an elite team of soldiers, known as Inferno Squad. Their mission: infiltrate and eliminate the remnants of Saw Gerrera’s Partisans. Following the death of their leader, the Partisans have carried on his extremist legacy, determined to thwart the Empire — no matter what the cost. Now, Inferno Squad must prove their status as the best of the best and take down the Partisans from within. But as the danger intensifies and the threat of discovery grows, how far will Inferno Squad go to ensure the safety of the Empire?"

Due to hit shelves on July 25, this novel ties into Saw Gerrera once again. But instead of following heroes from the rebellion, it looks like our protagonists will be members of the Inferno Squad.

Most likely, all the characters will be new. Obviously, most of Saw Gerrera’s people shared the same fate as he did in Rogue One.
