La Brea is coming back for another season. NBC’s announcement has officially confirmed La Brea’s fate of a third year in 10,000 B.C. However, La Brea has known not to sit on some questions for too long, delivering answers about what created the sinkholes, Gavin’s identity, and the reason for time travel all before season two finished.

By doing that, La Brea has solidly remained a faster-paced show, as it delivered answer after answer while setting up various new questions. Granted, some questions appear they may be series-long rather than being answered notably faster. Such as, will the survivors ever escape the sinkhole and return to their own time?

One of the series’ biggest mysteries and moving parts is whether everyone will ever return to their lives and the loved ones they left behind. Although the Harris family may have been lucky enough to reunite in 10,000 B.C., not everyone is so fortunate.

Sam’s desire to have the opportunity to reunite with his wife and son is his driving motivator in the mid-season two premiere. Sam needs to know that he and Riley will not be stuck down there forever and that they will have the chance to return home. However, keeping everyone in 10,000 B.C. is part of what keeps the show going. If everyone can return home, can there still be a show?

With La Brea being renewed for a third year, that suggests that more than likely, no one is getting out of the sinkhole and back home any time soon, or at least by the conclusion of season two.

If season three is the show’s last, then maybe everyone will be granted the ability to go home. However, that choice may depend entirely on the show’s future of being renewed or canceled.

There are still questions in the air, but knowing a season three is coming can help deal with whatever potential cliffhanger season two leaves.
