Xbox Games with Gold February Highlights

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent’s Curse is a point-and-click adventure that was released in 2013 for the Xbox One. This story is a fun whodunit that’s surprisingly funny and incredibly charming. You would think a point-and-click adventure would feel a little dated, but this installment in the Broken Sword series stands the test of time. Plus, it was backed by a Kickstarter and comes seven years after the last game in the series.

Next up for February is Aerial_Knight’s Never Yield, which was released last February. This is your 3D side-scroller for the month, an auto-runner that isn’t long. It doesn’t do much to break out of the auto-runner genre, dropping you right into the action as you try to figure out the nuances of the gameplay and mechanics. What does make it stand out are its vibrant, popping visuals and fantastic jazz soundtrack.

Hydrophobia takes you back to 2003 when survival games weren’t as insanely long as they are now, which is honestly a breath of fresh air. The water effects are astounding for their time, and this game is a standard action game. The most unbelievable part is that Kate, the character you play, has hydrophobia but swims and deals with the water like it’s no one’s business.

Last up this month is Band of Bugs, not to be confused with Bugsnax. This one was released in June 2007 and harkens back to the Xbox Live Arcade days. Band of Bugs gives you your turn-based strategy game for the month. The single-player and multiplayer modes are fun but you won’t think about them much after you play through them, especially with the inconsistent pacing of the story. There’s also a builder mode where you can create your levels, which is fun for a little bit. But it’s nothing to write home about.

light. Related Story. Xbox is buying Activision Blizzard and that may be an industry game-changer

Of course, you can still download Aground from the January games through February 14th.
