Warning: The post contains spoilers from episode 3.2 of A Discovery of Witches

A Discovery of Witches is into its final season, and, with only five episodes remaining, the eye is toward wrapping up the series. Tying up all the loose ends is paramount unless a spin-off (or two) is being considered. In this episode, the blood rage killer, who debuted in season two, was finally revealed. And it opened up a Pandora’s Box of problems far beyond what Diana (Teresa Palmer) and Matthew (Matthew Goode) are facing with the Congregation and Peter Knox.

In season two, Diana and Matthew unofficially adopted an orphan named Jack in 16th century London, and they were devastated that they had to leave him behind when they returned to their own time. As it turns out, Jack was just as distraught as he pined for his parents. He grew ill, but before he could die, Father Hubbard (Paul Rhys) turned him into a vampire. That set off a chain of events that no one could have predicted.

In present-day England, Hubbard returned, bringing an older Jack with him. Matthew and Diana are shocked to discover he’s a vampire. But it’s only after Jack attacked Baldwin that they also learned he was the blood rage killer. And Baldwin ordered Matthew to kill him, an order Matthew couldn’t obey.

Setting Jack up as the blood rage killer was a stroke of brilliance, and Toby Regbo, who now portrays an older Jack, was the perfect addition to the cast. Seeing his transformation from young and helpless to a vicious killer was a shock that escalated this season. With the series being this good only two episodes in, I can only imagine what the rest of the season will bring. But it’s already gone from being an incredibly good show to being an excellent series that could serve as a teaching tool to other paranormal shows.
