8. Ryan Wilder

It’s hard to believe it’s only been just a year since Javicia Leslie stepped into Batwoman’s boots for the first time, but it’s been incredible to watch her journey over the past year.

In the second season, in particular, Ryan’s evolution from a formerly incarcerated individual struggling to step back into society to Gotham’s hero was particularly moving. The season 2 finale is a stand-out moment in Ryan’s character development when she finally was able to move beyond her incarceration and parole and take control of her life.

Though it was sad to see Kate Kane, another incredible queer TV character, leave the show, it was so satisfying to see Kate hand the Batwoman title to Ryan since she truly deserved it after all she’d done for Gotham. Ryan is continuing to shine during season 3 of Batwoman, which will continue in 2022.
