Former First Lady Michelle Obama will guest star on the final season of Black-ish. Although the final season of the ABC sitcom will not premiere till 2022, the series has announced the appearance of Michelle Obama as it gets ready to close its eight-year run. Many fans may remember the series first premiered in the middle of President Barack Obama’s second term. With a run since 2014 honoring diversity and African American culture, Michelle Obama is the perfect guest star for the final season of the monumental show.

The show has honored and spoken about the Obama family in the past.  In a 2016 episode of the series, Anthony Anderson who plays Dre Johnson explained to his children his fear during President Obama’s inauguration. The episode was rightfully titled, “Hope”. The show played archival footage of the inauguration during the episode which tied along to the authenticity of the message.

It is thus not a surprise that Michelle Obama said on her Instagram, “I’ve long been a fan of @blackishabc’s with and all-around brilliance, and it was such a thrill to join in for an episode. I can’t wait for you all to see it!”

The last time she guest-starred on a network series was in 2019 when Parks and Recreation were on its sixth and final season. In the same fashion, the Former First Lady will guest star as herself. ABC has not disclosed any more information or details about her role.  Black-ish has hosted other political figures including Stacey Abrams and former Obama adviser David Axelrod.

With not many mainstream appearances as of late from the former first family, the news is exciting and a monumental ending for Black-ish.
