April 2021 release: Witches Steeped in Gold – Ciannon Smart
This Jamaican-inspired fantasy debut about two enemy witches who must enter into a deadly alliance to take down a common enemy has is described as a story that mixes the twisted cat-and-mouse games of Killing Eve with the richly imagined fantasy world of Furyborn and An Ember in the Ashes.
Basically, I don’t need a lot more convincing than that, but y’all do you.
Witches Steeped in Gold follows the story of Iraya and Jazmyne, two witches from very different circumstances – one the daughter of a doyenne of her order and the other a slave with her magic bound – who join forces to take down a mutual threat, and discover that they both have a lot to learn about who they are, where they come from, and the magic they thought they knew.
The official synopsis is fairly vague, but nevertheless enticing.
"Iraya has spent her life in a cell, but every day brings her closer to freedom – and vengeance. Jazmyne is the Queen’s daughter, but unlike her sister before her, she has no intention of dying to strengthen her mother’s power. Sworn enemies, these two witches enter a precarious alliance to take down a mutual threat. But power is intoxicating, revenge is a bloody pursuit, and nothing is certain – except the lengths they will go to win this game."
Witches Steeped in Gold is available on April 20.
