Wonder Woman 1984

Wonder Woman 1984 seems to have become one of the most polarizing movies of 2020; people either really love it or really hate it.

No matter which side you fall, there is no arguing that the sheer inspiration behind the character of Diana Prince has helped uplift superhero fans when we needed it most. She has survived and endured so much, yet she keeps persevering against all odds. Yes, there are some problems with the sequel, but overall it feels like a stylish, satisfactory entry in the adventures of Diana, while also progressing her character development and power set.

The introduction of Kristen Wiig’s Barbara Minerva/Cheetah has also been a point of contention among DCEU fans, but Wiig does a remarkable job portraying a character who is yearning to be a better version of herself–much like a lot of us struggled with in 2020, just largely due to outside forces. When Diana takes a chance on befriending Barbara, it’s a wonderful metaphor for how many of us came together to support each other during a time of crisis. There are so many more similarities to real life in this movie, it’s almost as if Patty Jenkins knew where we would be in 2020.
