The third episode of His Dark Materials season 2 airs tonight. Here’s what you need to know to watch the continuing adventures of Lyra Silvertongue.
Last week on His Dark Materials, Will and Lyra ventured back into Will’s Oxford to search for answers, Will seeking to find that his mother was safe, and Lyra looking for answers about Dust, thanks to a clue from the alethiometer.
In her journey there, Lyra met Mary Malone, a former nun turned physicist who introduced her to The Cave, a computer measuring dark matter, or Dust. Meanwhile, Will attempted to withdraw funds from his father’s trust, only to find his grandparents totally untrustworthy.
In the meantime, Mrs. Coulter furthered her conspiracy with the Magisterium and positioned Father MacPhail to become the new Cardinal, just as she decided to leave in pursuit of Lyra.
HBO’s official synopsis (per IMDB) for “Theft” reads:

As seen above, “Theft” will mark the return of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Lee Scoresby who is on the hunt for explorer and researcher Stanislaus Grumman, a man Lee believes may be able to help him protect Lyra. But on his journey, he crosses paths with the deadly Mrs. Coulter.
Speaking of crossing paths and returns, Lyra and Will return to Cittàgazze and the looming threat of spectres. It appears they will also run into Lord Boreal, a Magisterium spy, which spells trouble…
Another return spied in the above trailer for “Theft”? Fan favorite Iorek Byrnison, the armored bear Lyra freed and befriended in the first season. To find out what this all means, you’ll have to tune in.
