Doctor Who season 12 had plenty of amazing moments and shocking twists. We rank every episode of Jodie Whittaker’s second season in the TARDIS.

While we wait for the next Doctor Who holiday special – which, thankfully, is still apparently slated to happen this year – we’re still thinking about the series’ most recent season.

Season 12 was star Jodie Whittaker’s second season in the TARDIS and the first in which it felt as though the series’ writers truly had a hand on her Doctor. Thirteen came alive in season 12, finally allowed to be angry, broody, confused, and even selfish by turns. And with the rest of Team TARDIS fully established and settled into their roles, the dynamic between the group was more interesting than ever before.

The second season of the Chris Chibnall era took some big swings, finally engaging with Doctor Who’s existing mythology and lore in a way it never had before. This didn’t always work – occasionally those swings turned out to be a little too big – but it nevertheless resulted in some amazing moments and shocking twists, including the introduction of an entirely new Doctor and the return of her most famous best frenemy, the Master.

We look back and rank every episode of season 12, from worst to best.
