Based on the comic of a young half-deer boy, DC comic Sweet Tooth will be adapted for Netflix and produced by Robert Downey Jr.’s company, Team Downey.

Sweet Tooth may be a bit of an out-there concept, an adaptation of the Jeff Lemire for DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint is heading to Netflix, produced by Robert Downey, Jr.’s Team Downey. While Downey himself isn’t set to star in it at all, it is still fun to see the man who helped kick off the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe producing another comic project. Even if it is a DC Comics adventure.

With an all-star cast that includes James Brolin, Will Forte, and more, the series will run for eight episodes. According to the series synopsisSweet Tooth is “the broad appeal, family-friendly, storybook adventure of Gus (Pup Academy and Legion‘s Christian Convery) — part deer, part boy — who leaves his home in the forest to find the outside world ravaged by a cataclysmic event”.

Meeting up with a group of humans and animal-children hybrids, Gus and this ground of children start to look for answers about the world surrounding them as well as their hybrid-like origins.

To be honest, it seems like a complete sweet and wholesome story, albeit a bit out there, but that’s what makes comics fun, isn’t it? They’re not typically the run of the mill person and they have a purpose that drives them.

It will be exciting to see what lies ahead for Gus, and the beauty of Sweet Tooth is that we haven’t seen this story often enough to know all the details yet. While a comic, it is still a lesser-known story and getting to see the journey that will unfold for Gus and the other half-animal children he comes across is going to be fun!
