The Betrothed by Kiera Cass

Kiera Cass, author of the bestselling Selection series, is embarking on a brand-new adventure this month with the release of The BetrothedThe first book in a new series from Cass, this novel meshes romance and court intrigue in a way that’s likely to appeal to fans of her previous books (and anyone else looking for some royal drama to distract themselves with).

The story centers around Lady Hollis Brite, who is shocked and thrilled to discover that King Jameson himself is in love with her. It’s seemingly the perfect match, but, as one might imagine, wedding a king comes with all kinds of complications that Hollis wasn’t expecting. As the story continues, Hollis becomes increasingly uncomfortable with the notion — and that’s not to mention that she begins falling for someone else. According to the book’s synopsis:

"“But Hollis soon realizes that falling in love with a king and being crowned queen may not be the happily ever after she thought it would be. And when she meets a commoner with the mysterious power to see right into her heart, she finds that the future she really wants is one that she never thought to imagine.”"

Anyone looking for forbidden romance, court politics, and a love triangle should add The Betrothed to their May reading list. It sounds like the escapist romance we need right now. And just look at that cover!

The Betrothed is available in print, ebook, and audiobook formats on May 5.
