The survivors on The Walking Dead have ended Alpha’s reign but that doesn’t mean the Whisperer threat is over.

Alpha is dead, but will another Alpha take her place? There are still a lot of Whisperers left on The Walking Dead who believe in the doctrine that Alpha and Beta have created. Beta should probably be the next in line to lead, but since Negan killed her he may be the de facto leader instead. The person who killed the Alphas should become the Alpha.

At least now it’s known that Carol was the one who set Negan free after making a pact with him to kill Alpha. Carol, as usual, is tactically five steps ahead of everyone else. Will Alpha’s death bring Carol the peace she has been seeking since Henry’s death? Judging by the title of the episode, a throwback to The Grove episode in season 4, Alpha’s death may not quell Carol’s personal demons the way she thinks it will.

The Walking Dead 1014 synopsis hints that there will still be trouble from the Whisperers as the survivors try to salvage what they can at Hilltop:

"“Heroes and villains reckon with the aftermath of the Hilltop fire. Meanwhile, Eugene takes a group on a journey to meet Stephanie, with the hopes of befriending another civilization.”"

A flashback shows that Carol was the one who let Negan out of the cell so that he could kill Alpha in the opening minutes of The Walking Dead 1014 “Look At The Flowers”:
