Whether it’s magic, superpowers, or spy skills, the power that women hold is undeniable in these three shows you should binge on Netflix this week.

Women and power. Power and women. It’s a narrative dance of who has it, who wants it, and who’s trying to take it that runs through most media, intentionally or not. But some of the best stories look at women with power and what that means to them, the people around them, and their world as a whole.

This week we have three shows that explore women with power, its impact, and how they wield it to define themselves and the world around them. Power can be as big as telekinesis or witchcraft, but it can also be as slippery as influence or knowledge. How it’s navigated depends on the woman, and in these series, it depends on the tools the women have at their disposal.

Whether they’re trying to stop persecution and horrific executions, deal with the troubles of growing up and crippling self-doubt and self-esteem issues, or gather information about a shadowy entity bent on hiding their nefarious deeds, women and their power are at the center of these shows and are the driving force that moves the stories forward.

We begin with Luna Nera, an Italian series created by Francesca Comencini, Susanna Nicchiarelli, and Paola Randi, and based on books written by Tiziana Triana.
