The first Stranger Things 4 teaser arrived Valentine’s Day morning, showing the return of a favorite character in snowy 1980s Russia.

A brand new Stranger Things 4 teaser is here, and we’re not in Hawkings anymore. (Spoilers for the end of the third season of Stranger Things… obviously.)

The teaser dropped across all of the official Stranger Things social media accounts Friday morning with the simple caption “From Russia with love.”

Watch the Stranger Things 4 teaser below:

The teaser doesn’t reveal a lot, but it gives us a lot of reason to be excited for the next chapter of Stranger Things.

It begins with a wide crane shot and zooms in closer on what appears to be a very snowy Russian prison camp. Prisoners hammer nails into a railroad track as German Shepherds bark at them and soldiers walk around with rifles.

At the last moment, the camera pans up on one tall, burly soldier who stands to wipe the sweat from his brow and takes off his cap, revealing himself to be Jim Hopper (David Harbour).

We don’t know why Hopper is there or even when the new season is coming, but we do know one key fact: Hopper is alive.

At the end of the (somewhat controversial) third season, Hopper appeared to have died in a self-sacrificial act to close the portal to the Upside Down. However, a tag at the very end of the finale revealed an unseen American still alive in a Russian prison.

We never did see Hopper’s body, so it was never certain that Hopper died, despite Joyce and Eleven’s incredibly heartfelt grief for him. But thanks to this sweet new Valentine’s teaser, we at least know he’s alive somewhere, whether he’s in an alternate dimension or Russia proper.

Sadly, we still have to wait another year to find out for sure.

Next. Here’s everything coming to Netflix this February. dark
