In the aftermath of the disaster at Joe’s bar on Grey’s Anatomy, the doctors of Grey Sloan Memorial must work tirelessly to save the victims — some of whom they know well.

After two long months of waiting — and one majorly unpleasant casting announcement — Grey’s Anatomy finally returns in an epic crossover event this week.

The last time we saw our favorite (and for some, least favorite) doctors, they were casually enjoying a round of drinks before a speeding car crashed through the front of Emerald City Bar (which is, fun fact, still the same bar where Meredith and Derek met — the more you know).

So far, Grey’s Anatomy Season 16 has given fans just about as much “dark and twisty” tragedy as they can handle. Breakups, miscarriages, possibly a stolen infant — oh, and the whole “Amelia has no idea who the father of her baby is” situation. Maybe she knows and we don’t. Why are we not surprised?

This episode will likely feature plenty of fast-paced drama and trauma, which is a great way for a show to pick back up midseason. With Grey’s, it’s usually the finales that bring the heat and the premieres that offer the cool-down.

Good thing we got that not-so-nice cliffhanger to build our anticipation to maximum heights. And now that we’re unsure whether or not Alex will survive the midseason premiere — they could write him off without killing him, but how? — we’re all in a collective state of worry.

After you watch Seattle’s greatest firefighters take control of the scene, tune in to (hopefully) get answers to some of your most pressing (baby daddy) questions.

Grey’s Anatomy returns to ABC at a brand-new time this Thursday as part of a 2-hour crossover event with its sister show Station 19, which premieres at 8 p.m. ET.
