We have four episodes left of this show, and not a moment to spare. The team needs to design the new version of the afterlife–the version that takes after the show itself of rebooting afterlifes over and over again until a person either improves or doesn’t and they get sent to the Good Place or the Bad Place accordingly.

Even though Shawn and the Judge have agreed to implement the Soul Squad’s new idea, we already know it’s not about to be a walk in the park.

Things aren’t going to go as well as they would hope. Maybe someone double-crosses them. Maybe they get new neighborhoods set up and their new test subjects don’t improve. None of them. Test after test, group after group might just prove that it’s our four humans who are different from the rest of humanity.

But what would that prove? The Good Place has always been about a larger message. Taking several seasons to prove the point system is invalid and people can improve shouldn’t (and probably won’t) get thrown out the window in the last few episodes.
