As the new decade begins on Project Runway, it is time to recycle those old looks for something more fashionable. What will these designers upcycle?

Project Runway tries to tackle trends, as well as important topics. The idea of upcycling is hot in the fashion world. Since the fashion industry can negatively cause copious amounts of waste, the concept of reusing fabric is vital. But, can these recyclable looks really be high fashion?

According to Bravo, this week’s Project Runway episode, “The Ultimate Upcycle” features the following:

"“Guest mentor Karla Welch tasks the designers with dressing her client, Karlie Kloss; the designers must recycle donated clothing from a Goodwill store to create their looks, and they must be both resourceful and fast for this one day challenge.”"

While the upcycling factor will be the feature of this episode, the client is as equally important. Creating a fashionable, chic look for Kloss is more difficult than it sounds. No one wants for her to end up on the US Weekly “What Was She Thinking” page.

Although Kloss hasn’t’ been too harsh with her judgment, she is keen on what she likes and what she doesn’t. These looks need to be appropriate for both her and the event.

Still, the biggest takeaway from this Project Runway episode should be the upcycling aspect. With so many clothes available from various resources, more designers can find ways to repurpose that fabric. Why not deconstruct an old dress and make it into something fabulous?

Lastly, the preview clips show a few comments that make it seem designers are starting to show their catty side. From sly comments to underhanded compliments, it seems like the shears are starting to get sharpened.
