While I might not be a Slytherin, I have to respect them

Slytherin is the house that often gets a lot of flack from fans and maybe we should respect those who willingly chose the house of Lord Voldemort a little more than we do.

When it comes to Hogwarts Houses, choosing to be a Slytherin is probably a brave choice. Mainly because fans love to turn Slytherins into the bad guys. Which isn’t really our fault. In the grand scheme of Harry Potter, most Slytherins end up being Death Eaters or at least working for Voldemort in some capacity.

So, why is it brave then for fans to pick Slytherin as their chosen house? Because they are constantly mocked and made fun of and yet they are proud of being in their house because that’s the joy of the Potter series. No matter what house you pick, it is yours and you relate to it.

I think, for Slytherins at least, that they are just misunderstood and our comprehension of them comes from the few main characters we’ve met. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child does a good job of breaking down the stigmatism around Slytherins and uses Harry’s own son to do so. Albus is put in Slytherin and he’s worried about it but throughout the course of the show, he learns to rise above it and that kind of strength and resilience is what makes this series so special.

Whether you’re a Slytherin or a Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, or Ravenclaw, we’re all in this together because we love the Harry Potter series. Each and every one of us are here because we love Harry and his friends and that’s the most important thing of all.
