The Pretenders – Rebecca Hanover
Another series that’s wrapping up its run this December, Rebecca Hanover’s The Similars duology will conclude with The Pretenders. In this sequel, Emma must decide who she really is, make a choice between two boys who share a face, and stop a dangerous plan based on revenge.
So, you know, normal, everyday teen stuff. Or at least, as normal as things can be when you’ve got clones at your school.
On top of all this, Emma’s not really dealing that well with all the things that went down during her junior year. She can’t even manage to talk to her friends about what happened, and it’s left her feeling lonely and isolated. But she’s going to have to pull it together fast, if she and her friends are going to save the people they care about from an evil plot by the Similars’ creator.
The official synopsis sets it up like this.
"Emma is still reeling from the events of her junior year at Darkwood. Not only is her best friend, Oliver, shockingly alive, but the boy she loves—his Similar, Levi—is still on the island where he grew up, stranded with his deranged creator. More importantly, she is grappling with who she really is. Emma can’t accept the hard truths she learned last year and refuses to share her secrets with anyone, isolating herself from her friends and Ollie. But when more of the Similars’ creator’s plot is revealed, Emma and her friends will have to try to stop him from putting a plan into motion that could destroy everyone she loves."
The Pretenders is available now.
