Diamond & Dawn by Lyra Selene

Lyra Selene’s Amber & Dusk took readers on an adventure to the Amber City to see Sylvie — now called Mirage — take her place as Empress. But now that the coup is over and Mirage is ready to secure her throne, Diamond & Dawn will throw new challenges her way. As it turns out, getting everything she ever wanted isn’t all it’s cracked up to be — and her claim to becoming Empress isn’t as secure as she believed.

Not only has the former Empress managed to survive the last book’s battle, remaining in a coma, but a new foe arrives to throw a wrench in Mirage’s well-laid plans. As the novel’s synopsis puts it:

"“Worse, a distant cousin, Gavin d’Ars, Duc de Douane, appears in court to challenge both women with his blood claim, and to propose a series of trials to determine the most deserving heir. In Mirage’s fight to defend her vision for the empire, she begins to splinter all of her networks. Will the battle for control leave anyone untainted?”"

SFF fans who love a story full of action and political maneuvering will want to keep this sequel on their radar — and perhaps even pick up the first one if they haven’t already. Diamond & Dawn arrives on December 3.
