8. Mickey’s A Christmas Carol

As I mentioned before, there have been many versions of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. And perhaps my all time favorite version of this story has to be Mickey’s Christmas Carol, which brings the classic Disney characters to life in a new way.

Released in 1983, this Dickens’ classic as an animated movie brought to life by characters like Mickey, Donald, and Goofy, still holds up to this day. And that doesn’t always happen. There have been plenty of movies and shows that simply don’t live up to our memories, and yet this one does.

Perhaps what makes Mickey’s A Christmas Carol work is that it really does stay true to its source material in many ways. And even the small tweaks that are done to make it child-friendly are not enough to take away from the story and what it means.

Unlike some reimaginings of this classic story, this Christmas movie is fun, vibrant, and well crafted. We get a film that is not trying to imitate anything else, but is instead trying to live up to the emotion and storytelling of Charles Dickens. And even with Mickey and friends bringing these characters to life, Dickens’ work still reigns supreme in this version of the film. (For me, this is truly the very best animated version of A Christmas Carol.)
