10 New Amsterdam episodes to help get us through this hiatus

“Three Dots” (written by Cami Delavigne, directed Jamie Payne)
New Amsterdam is no stranger to difficult storytelling, and stories about depression that lead to a suicide attempt are some of the most trying and emotionally taxing to cover. Mental health discussions are still stigmatized regardless of culture background, but it is also true that some cultural groups are willing to broach the topic while others won’t even acknowledge a mental health crisis is happening because doing so would be admitting weakness.
“Three Dots” is a sensitive exploration of this issue that doesn’t shame Amy Chiang or her mother, June, for their decision to initially refuse care despite Amy desperately needing counseling to help her combat her severe depression. Vijay, Iggy, and Max do what they can to help even going as far as down coding Amy’s billing to hide what she’s really being treated for (yes, this is defrauding the hospital which is not condoned in the narrative and Max does have to offset the costs for doing this).
As with a good portion of the cases explored in New Amsterdam, our doctors have to think outside of the box to save someone’s life. And they’re willing to do that because helping a patient doesn’t stop at what’s typically done. They start there and if the situation requires it they go above and beyond until a solution can be found. They’re the kind of doctors you want in your corner and at your side.
