Sarah Michelle Gellar, everyone’s favorite slayer, returns to network television with a new limited series produced by Ellen Degeneres.

Sarah Michelle Gellar is probably best known for her leading role as Buffy Summers in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but it’s been a while since fans of the actress have seen her appear on network television. There’s good news on that front, however: She’ll be returning to TV to star in a limited thriller series on Fox, one that’s being directed by Ellen Degeneres.

Based on former BBC journalist Alice Feeney’s best-selling novel of the same name, Sometimes I Lie centers around Gellar’s Amber Reynolds, who is in a coma but can’t remember how she got there. Scared and trapped in her own body, Amber pieces together her past memories in order to figure out whether what has happened to her is an accident or not. The supporting characters include a husband who no longer is in love with Amber, a sister hiding her own dangerous secret, and a stalker-like ex-boyfriend.

The show flashes back and forth between her paralyzed present, the weeks preceding the accident and a series of diaries from twenty years ago. The series is being called a psychological thriller, with the tagline of: Is something really a lie if you believe it’s the truth?

This marks Gellar’s first series regular role since she played opposite the late Robin Williams on David E. Kelley’s comedy The Crazy Ones, which aired on CBS. In addition to her role as Buffy from the cult hit Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Gellar has also  had several starring roles in movies such as I Know What You Did Last Summer, Cruel Intentions, and Veronika Decides to Die.
