The third episode of Poldark’s final season is upon us, and it looks like there’s trouble at the mine! Not Ross’ mine though. It’s a Warleggan mine.

The third episode of Poldark’s final season is upon us, and it looks like there’s trouble at the mine! Not Ross’ mine though. It’s a Warleggan mine, but George, as we’ve seen in episodes one and two, has much more on his mind than the lives of the poor people who work for him — namely, the ghost of his dead wife.

Cue Ross and the gang running to the rescue. Never one to miss the chance to be heroic, the preview video shows Ross running into the caves, while his right-hand man Dwight deals with the aftermath on the beach. The miners’ lives are in their (admittedly quite capable) hands.

George, meanwhile, is being dunked in an ice bath in an attempt to help him recover from his trauma. There’s even a glimpse of a gun in the preview video, leveled at his usually trusted uncle-in-arms. Is George fighting back, or is this yet another symptom of his deteriorating mental state? Does he know friend from foe?

PBS’ official preview of the episode teases:

"“Ross’ mission to help Ned bears fruit, but not without cost. Demelza wrestles with how best to help the community, and Morwenna finds hope. A new relationship continues to blossom, while George’s sanity continues to deteriorate.”"

Indeed, Ross’ former Colonel Ned’s predicament is not yet over, but he still finds time to risk his life further in Ross’ rescue effort. In fact, the only people not caught up in that seem to be the women, who are dealing with problems of their own. Morwenna comes face to face with her formidable mother-in-law — who has taken custody of her son — and Ned’s wife Kitty continues to be harassed by this season’s Biggest Bad: Ralph Hanson.

Still, we worry more for the people of Wheal Plenty. After all, they’ve yet to find a task our Cornish heroines are not yet equal to.
