Billy Porter made history at the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards, becoming the first openly gay black actor to accept an award for Best Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his role on FX’s Pose. But if that by itself didn’t make a statement, Porter’s attire sure did. The Pose star couldn’t be missed on the red carpet or onstage last night, as his suit shone almost as brightly as he did.

The suit in question is from the Michael Kors Collection, and it features a sparkling pinstripe pattern that, according to what the actor told People, showcased “51,000 Swarovski crystals.” The outfit glittered enough that we can certainly believe in the validity of that comment. And if Porter was going for a flashy, eye-catching look, we’d have to say he succeeded in that area.

Porter’s choice of accessories also turned heads, and specifically, his huge hat made quite a few headlines. While such an item wouldn’t work for everyone, the actor pulled it off well. Paired with the glittering suit and platform heels, the style choice felt both unique and powerful.

“I’ve always loved fashion,” Porter told People. “I didn’t know that fashion icon was in the lexicon. But if people are saying that about me, I’m fine with it.”
