With the looming threat of Bonnie drowning and Renata’s life falling to pieces, what is in store for the Monterey Five on this week’s Big Little Lies?
The last few episodes of Big Little Lies have shown us that everyone is struggling to figure out what is going on. Last week, we were met with Bonnie coping with her mother’s stroke, unaware that it was caused by a vision of Bonnie drowning in the ocean.
But it isn’t the first episode to show that everyone is struggling with what they did. Earlier, Madeline broke down in front of the entire PTA at a meeting for the school and that was after every woman watched as their lives fell apart for one reason or another. So, is it surprising they still haven’t sorted out what is going on in their world?
Madeline can’t figure out what her relationship with Ed is; Celeste is dealing with Mary Louise trying to take her boys away; Bonnie can’t handle what she did to Perry; and Jane is still trying to cope with Perry’s rape. That’s not to even touch on Renata being broke because of her husband. So, they’re all pretty much a mess and it doesn’t seem as if they’re going to figure it all out this week either.
Which is fine. It wouldn’t be realistic for these women to suddenly sort out all their problems and be ready to move on with their lives. They killed a man and covered it up, that isn’t something they can just forget about in order to move on for their families. So, the fact that each week it seems to weigh more heavily on them is wonderful because it actually shows that they’re going to struggle with their guilt.
