HBO period drama Gentleman Jack continues this week as both Anne Lister and Anne Walker begin their lives without one another.
After two episodes‘ worth of emotional strife as Lister and Ann wrestle with the question of whether than can be together in a long-term way, the answer seems to be no. No matter how much they both care about one another, Ann doesn’t seem 100% sure about openly committing to a relationship that both her friends and her religion deem sinful and wrong.
“Why’ve you brought that?” is our first installment post-Anne/Ann breakup, and it’s hard to know exactly where the show goes next. If the trailer is anything to go by, it looks as though both women are going to be on their own for a bit.
Which isn’t maybe the worst idea in the world from a story perspective, but it’s going to be weird not to see them together constantly, if that is indeed the case.
Lister, for her part, appears ready to go toe-to-toe with the dreadful Rawson over the mining issue that’s dominated the bulk of the season. Which, by the way, he more than deserves, as he is terrible.
