Splitting Up Together

The what: This charming family sitcom is in the middle of its second season, and features a recently divorced couple who are upside down in their home and can’t move away separately. Consequently, they are forced to share the home, taking turns sleeping in the garage apartment when it’s their off week for parenting. Jenna Fischer and Oliver Hudson play the couple, who at first, are in the world’s best divorce ever. But, just as in life, things start to fall apart when they start to go their own way.

The feels: The show is just downright cute. The chemistry between Fischer and Hudson is both sparkling and uncomfortable as they swing between genuine amicability and snarky bickering. For anyone who’s ever been married or in a long-term relationship, this dynamic strikes a familiar chord. No one can push your buttons like a spouse, and this show doubles down on how one sees the other — and it’s not always kind.

The deets: Splitting Up Together is about a third of the way into its second season. To catch up with season one, head over to ABC’s website to check it out. Hulu has a handful of episodes from season 2, if you’re only a little behind. Alongside Fischer and Hudson, Lindsay Price and Bobby Lee play their couple friends who are trying to navigate how to stay friends with a couple after a breakup. Price is just a delight.
