Camille realizes it was Amma – Sharp Objects

What happened: HBO’s limited series was one of the most amazing TV events I’ve ever seen. Based on a novel by the same name, it follows Amy Adams playing Camille, a journalist who returns to her hometown to investigate the murders of three young girls.

Camille is a complicated and tortured young woman, who can’t seem to shake her past struggles with alcoholism and self-harm. Patricia Clarkson plays her sociopath of a mother, who is downright terrible to both her daughters, Camille and her younger sister Amma, played by Eliza Scanlen. This show takes us through eight episodes of whodunnit, only to drop the biggest bomb of all time. The killer is the younger sister, Amma, and she used the teeth of her victims for flooring in her dollhouse.

Why it’s important: Aside from the show’s exquisite and intricate storytelling, well-developed characters, and gorgeous Missouri setting, it serves up a plot twist that none of us saw coming. The show is based on a Gillian Flynn novel, so you know it’s going to give you a real run for your money. But I really don’t think anybody saw Amma coming as the town’s serial killer.

Additionally, Adams portrays Camille with depth and fragility. Watching Adams play this character is what I would imagine it would be like to read the character in Flynn’s novel. The show was both disturbing and completely compelling, and you just don’t get to experience storytelling like this very often.

How to find it: It’s limited mini-series, so you’ll probably have to check into HBOGo to watch. However, since I’ve already spoiled it for you completely, you can just rewatch the last episode. But be sure to stick around for after the credits — there’s a creepy wrap up.
