The G.L.O.W. episode – GLOW
What happened: Okay, technically every episode of this show is about the actual Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling that used to air on Saturday mornings. However, “The Good Twin” leaves the storytelling of the Netflix original to lean into an actual episode of the wrestling program. Alison Brie really allows Zoya the Destroyer to take over against Betty Gilpin’s Liberty Belle.
Why it’s important: The episode comes in the back third of the second season, and allows the ladies to fully actualize their wrestling alter egos. The fact that it took a whole season and a half speaks to the patience and care this show takes with its storytelling. It wasn’t until Sam the producer had the freedom to do the show, gloves off, that this episode could exist.
It’s also a fun nod to the actual G.L.O.W. series that ran in the ’80s. While the dramatized stories are the thing, this little diversion was fun and frothy. I enjoyed seeing the show-within-the-show really double down on the characters-playing-other-characters.
How to watch: GLOW is a Netflix original, so you can find both seasons there. “The Good Twin” is mostly a standalone episode, if you don’t mind not knowing the backstory for each persona. It’s the eighth episode of the second season.
