“Mis Deseos / Feliz Navidad” – Il Volo Feat. Belinda

We needed a little diversity on this holiday playlist, so who better than the opera trio Il Volo and Latin popstar Belinda to spice things up a bit? “Feliz Navidad” has been done by a lot of people, but this is one of my faves.

Il Volo featured their “Feliz Navidad” cover on their 2013 holiday album Buon Natale: The Christmas Album, which featured songs in Italian, English, German, Spanish, and Latin. The classical singers are great no matter what language they sing in, which is why their version of the dual-language holiday classic is so perfect. They open the song with their beautiful vocals, then the beat picks up a bit as they go into “Feliz Navidad” with Belinda in the background singing in Spanish.

This is one holiday song that really gets you dancing, and even though the Il Volo boys are usually more serious with their classical crossover tracks, they really seem to have fun on it. The trio premiered this song and their entire Christmas album on a PBS special, which had the boys showing off their charm as well as their angelic voices. The funny thing is, most of the songs on the album are relatively unknown to Italian audiences, so their covers were their introduction into American holiday classics.
