“Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” – Rosie O’Donnell & Cher

Remember how I said the Colton Haynes track was an unexpected entry to your Christmas playlist? Well, I have another unexpected holiday bop for you, and this one is really out of left field: Cher… and Rosie O’Donnell!

The comedian released her first Christmas album A Rosie Christmas in 1999 with a surprising roster of collaborators. O’Donnell sang with the likes of Celine Dion, Elton John, Donny Osmond, and even Elmo! The album also featured a song with the Grammy and Oscar-winning Goddess of Pop, Cher. The duo covered “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” but managed to make it unlike any Christmas song we had ever heard.

If you’re a fan of Cher, you might have realized that this song came out around the same era as Cher’s “Believe,” which revolutionized the use of autotune in pop music. They took that same autotuned pop sound and put it towards making their holiday collaboration a dance floor ready anthem. Cher belts out the familiar chorus, while a robotic (in the best way) O’Donnell picks up the verses.

It might not fit in with all the other songs on this list — except maybe Lady Gaga’s “Christmas Tree — but it’ll no doubt bring a different atmosphere to your holiday party this year! Sometimes it gets annoying when your whole playlist is just the same song performed the same way over and over, so when it’s an original song, or at least a unique take on a classic, it’s a really refreshing change.
