Review: Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald was just fine

It saddens Harry Potter fans to note that the latest Fantastic Beasts movie was just fine. The twists were annoying and there wasn’t much to enjoy out of it.

Sorry to disappoint you all but Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald was just okay. Sure, it was a movie that is part of the series that we like but it wasn’t anything special to want to see over and over again. This is going to be our spoiler-ridden review so please, don’t read on if you plan on seeing the movie.

Spoilers below:

So the backstory to Credence Barebone seemed to be extremely interesting and then they threw it all out the door and suddenly made him a long lost brother to a character we know and love. Why? Because it would bring drama? It’s a movie that is part of the Harry Potter series. You didn’t need to do that.

Also, let’s talk about Leta Lestrange. You give us this beautifully complex character, she tries to change her life, burdens this death that wasn’t on her really and then they go ahead and kill her off. Why? Who knows. We could have had such an interesting dynamic throughout the next three movies. Instead, we get to learn about how Credence Barebone is a Dumbledore that no one knew existed.

The Nagini storyline is another one that sure, in the context of the movie makes more sense but it still isn’t a great. A woman who is forced into being a snake for the rest of her life? Cool, but she actively doesn’t follow Grindelwald and so then you’re going to say she willingly goes to Voldemort?

The movie had some fun moments and it was interesting but there were a lot of issues with it that need to be addressed in the upcoming movies.
