“500 Candles In The Wind (Bye Bye Li’l Sebastian)” – Parks and Recreation
The show: Parks and Recreation
Parks and Recreation, much like Friends, needs little explanation. Thanks to Amy Poehler’s embodiment of Leslie Knope, we now have a new iconic feminist icon to add to the pop culture canon. As bright as Poehler is as Leslie, the show also features a cast completely full of talent, including a scruffy Chris Pratt as Andy.
Most of the original music of the show comes from Andy’s band, Mouserat. Much like everything else he does, Andy only sort of half-tries at his band, but much to audiences’ delight, it is really awesome all the same.
Best of the best: “500 Candles In the Wind (Goodbye Li’l Sebastian)” (“Li’l Sebastian,” season 3)
Li’l Sebastian, the town of Pawnee’s miniature horse mascot, has become a beloved part of the Parks and Rec universe. After his death, Andy writes a moving tune to honor the fallen Li’l Sebastian, and he and Mouserat perform it at the Pawnee-Eagleton Unity Concert. As a testament to how important the tiny horse is to the community, Andy and Mouserat are joined by none other than Ginuwine, who is (conveniently enough) Donna’s cousin.
Best lyric(s):
“And though we all miss you everyday
We know you’re up there eating heaven’s hay
And here’s the part that hurts the most
Humans cannot ride a ghost”
