15 reasons why The Nightmare Before Christmas is still a timeless classic 25 years later
The holiday trees
The grove of holiday trees is a magical set of doorways into different holiday-themed worlds (much like Jack Skellington’s own Halloween Town). And it is an area we witness not only when we start our journey into Halloween Town to first meet the people and its Pumpkin King, but also later on as well. These trees are actually what lead to Jack’s kidnapping of Santa Claus after he happens upon the magical doors and goes through the one for Christmas Town.
Each of the trees features a symbol that represents the major holidays, such as Easter, Thanksgiving, and of course Christmas. And while we don’t get to see the other holiday worlds, we love the idea that each of these trees has the potential to bring us to an entirely new place.
Can you imagine how cool it would be to find a copse of trees that are actually magical entrances into new worlds? And what if those worlds were dedicated to specific holidays, particularly some of our favorites, like Halloween, Christmas, and Easter? This would be something so entrancing and magical that perhaps we would be able to understand how Jack felt stumbling upon Christmas Town and Santa Claus.
