Low tier

10. Joe Amabile and Jenna Johnson: 18

This came right after Evanna and Keo’s Viennese waltz, and it sometimes felt more like a contemporary dance rather than a Viennese waltz of its own. It definitely showed an improvement, but because so much of it was spent out of hold, it lost some of the flavor of the waltz, which Len also commented on.

However, as the judges all noted, he seems to be easing into this competition. It’s not enough to ease him out of the low tier, but it is an effort.

9. John Schneider and Emma Slater: 21

Dancing for his mom added an emotional depth that showed on John’s face throughout the entire waltz. There were some improvements to his posture, and he stripped it down. Compared to his breakthrough Charleston last week, this was much more understated — and impressive.

“You kind of framed her beautifully,” Bruno said, and he was gentle in his notes, too. Even Carrie Ann said that some work needed to be done on his posture, though.
