Television will once again offer the opportunity to watch Jim Carrey act regularly with Kidding on Showtime. Here’s how to watch the premiere.
Although the series premiere of Kidding has been available on YouTube for a few days, it’s actually a censored version. Tonight will be the first time that you can watch the full episode on Showtime.
You’ve probably heard a little bit about Kidding, considering how it represents Jim Carrey’s biggest role in quite some time. He earned a cover on The Hollywood Reporter for it, and his Jeff Pickles anchors the series.
Well, that’s where things might be wrong, speaking as someone who checked out the censored premiere episode out of curiosity. Here’s a short trailer below:
Here’s the synopsis, via Showtime:
"Jeff Pickles decides it’s time to talk about death on Mr. Pickles’ Puppet Time. His executive producer, Seb, feels that Mr. Pickles the persona and Jeff Pickles the person need to remain separate. Deirdre punishes her daughter Maddy for not eating her veggies. Series premiere."
Deirdre’s role isn’t revealed in this synopsis, but she’s actually the head puppeteer and the puppet maker on Mr. Pickles’ Puppet Time; unfortunately, no, we don’t know why she’s wearing a giant Mr. Pickles puppet head in the above trailer. That’ll have to wait until future episodes, apparently. Additionally, if you’ve glanced at any reviews of the series, you’ll probably know why Jeff wants to discuss death. (Spoilers follow: One of his twin sons died in a car accident a year ago. Spoilers end.)
Ultimately, speaking as someone who’s watched the first episode … it’s intriguing, a little strange, and yet somehow compelling all at the same time. Here’s how you can watch it online.
"Date: Sunday, Sept. 9Episode: “Green Means Go”Start time: 10 p.m. ETTV Channel: ShowtimeLive stream: Showtime requires a subscription, but you’re able to add it on through the website directly, through your cable provider, or through Fubo TV."
Showtime also has a free trial, linked above.
This is the first episode of Kidding, which will have a 10-episode first season.
