Sometimes, it hurts to remember what Jacob Kowalski had to go through in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them but he is us and we are him.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them provided us with Jacob Kowalski. A character who’s entire life was centered around his love of magic and everything to do with it, we related to him. Why? Well, he wasn’t a magical being.
When Newt’s creatures destroyed his apartment and came back home with him from the bank, Jacob was thrust into a story that he wouldn’t have had a part of and he got to be a part of the magic. Sadly, by the end of the movie, he was forced to forget everything about the wizarding world.
Though he isn’t supposed to remember Queenie, when she comes into his bakery, it is clear that he was meant to be a part of the magic and he remembers slightly what happened (or at least he thinks they’re dreams). So ask yourself this: Would you be a Jacob?
We all want to be a part of the magic, want to be where the wizards and witches are and, if we got to be there and had to forget, there would always be that part of us that held on to the time we had in the world we long to be a part of.
Jacob Kowalski is all of us and we are him and we can’t wait until we get to see him back in action in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
You can catch Jacob Kowalski in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald out this November 16. Make sure to check back here on Wizards and Whatnot for more news on the Fantastic Beasts series as well as all things Harry Potter.
