Cher is releasing an album of just ABBA covers, and her latest version of SOS was just unleashed on the world. We are not worthy, and we are not ready for the full album!
Can you hear that buzz in the air? That’s the faint sound of Cher fans around the world screaming and crying over the release of her latest ABBA cover, “SOS.” The goddess of pop is releasing an album of ABBA covers after being inspired by the group’s music while she was on the set of Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, and it just keeps getting better.
Earlier this month, Cher released the first song from the 10-track LP, “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)” and fans were shook. It stayed true to the original ABBA tune, but it was still distinctively Cher, complete with her deep vocals and plenty of autotune — for the desired effect, not because Cher ever needs to sound better, of course.
Now, Cher has unleashed “SOS” onto the world, and it may be even better than “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!” Cher’s vocals are booming, but she still has that electro-pop twist that we’re sure is going to be a staple on the album, Dancing Queen. She has managed to bring ABBA to a whole new generation of music fans, and breathes life into each cover, making them sound as current as any other song on the radio. But of course she does, it’s Cher!
The 10-track album is set to be released on Sept. 28, and features other ABBA hits such as “The Winner Takes it All,” “Waterloo,” “Mamma Mia,” and, probably the most anticipated, “Dancing Queen.” If these songs keep getting better, then we’re not sure if we’re ready to hear the whole album. A Cher cover of “Dancing Queen” may be so perfect that all of humanity might not even be able to go on after that.
