Game of Thrones season 8 spoilers: It’s falling down, my fair lady

Game of Thrones season 8 has made some major alterations to what could be the biggest setpiece of the season, and we’re trying to figure out why.

Warning: Spoilers for Game of Thrones season 8 — including photos — will be discussed below. Just know what you’re getting into, okay?

It’s a shame that substituting King’s Landing for “London bridge” in the children’s song really messes with the rhythm. Thanks to the latest find from our sister site Winter is Coming, we know that the city is falling down. There will probably even be fair ladies involved, to boot; hence the reference in the title of this spoiler roundup.

But, as Winter is Coming points out, what we’re seeing probably isn’t the work of human siege engines, unless a giant magical lizard that breathes fire qualifies as a siege engine. (They’re more like medieval fighter jets, really, if we had to make a judgment call.)

Check out the latest from A Red Priestess below:

That is some carefully-constructed-to-look-random damage. However, it doesn’t seem like fire-blackening effects have been added yet. Right now, it looks as if a dragon kind of kicked or charged into the tower, snapping it in half. It’s also entirely possible that those kinds of additions will be made through the magic of CGI.

WiC points out that we don’t know who is actually causing the destruction, but it really doesn’t make as much sense for Daenerys to do this unless she absolutely has to. Granted, it might come to that, because nothing is ever easy in the Seven Kingdoms. But at least initially, that doesn’t make sense for her to destroy a city that she wants to take over.

Why would you be queen of nothing but ashes and broken towers? There’s no point to it, and we think Daenerys is probably smarter than that — or smart enough to listen to her advisers.
