It would seem as if Spock is making a show of it on Star Trek: Discovery. Or rather, that he’s just finally showing up in season 2.
You’d think it would have been an easy thing to have Spock be on Star Trek: Discovery. His adoptive sister is the star of the series, after all, but surprisingly that wasn’t the case with season 1. We all wondered when he would show up and, it seems, that season 2 finally has the answer for us.
Unfortunately, it isn’t the Spock we necessarily want to see. Jonathan Frakes, who is directing part of the season, talked at the El Paso Comic Con. On Twitter, Justin Oser of Trek.fm tweeted out some of what Frakes had to say about the upcoming season and how we’ll see a younger version of the first officer — meaning probably when he and Burnham are children.
All that is fine and sweet, but it isn’t exactly what we want. Personally, I think they’re trying to avoid having to recast Spock from Zachary Quinto in the film universe so they’re giving us this version of Spock to appease us.
I don’t think it necessarily works seeing as Spock and the rest of the crew of the Enterprise are, at the same time, going through Starfleet. They’re not yet on their five-year mission when we first meet them in the original series, but they are still in the program the same time as Burnham and the crew of the Discovery.
So will we ever get a glimpse and Kirk, Spock, Uhura and the crew we know and love? Who knows. But we are getting a little bit of Captain Pike in this upcoming season of Star Trek: Discovery, so we haven’t lost hope yet!
