Archie and Veronica — Riverdale

I’ve written a lot about this couple. It’s mostly me complaining about how awful Archie is and how false Veronica is. But when you put them together, they make a dripping, vapid mess of a couple that can’t decide what they want to be or how they want to go about it.

Archie wants to be the boy next door, but also wants to be the town’s enforcer, an acoustic guitar player, a double agent, a crime solver and a loving friend and son. Veronica, on the other hand, wants to be the cool girl everyone turns to, but she also wants to dabble in corporate espionage, be a lead singer and secretly facilitate a turf war. It’s too much for one couple.

There are plenty of scenes in which Archie and Veronica have meaningful conversations, looking longingly and understandingly into each other eyes. But it’s clear they are just waiting for the other to finish so that they can say what they’ve been thinking about all along.

They might be the only Riverdale couple to get back together after a break up, but they are certainly not meant for each other. Veronica is sure to outgrow Archie’s “aw shucks” ways, and Archie will most certainly fall victim to Veronica’s cunning eventually.
