The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story episode 2 review
Don’t worry, The Assassination of Gianni Versace seems to be following a path of giving us a lot of “maybe” information to justify why Andrew Cunanan killed Versace.
The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story is one of those shows that we first have to recognize isn’t fact. These are not the exact stories that happened and how they went down. Mainly because we don’t know the facts because the two men we could ask are dead.
With that in mind, last night’s episode was pretty eye-opening. Mainly because it showed us that this show isn’t going to go through the story of Gianni Versace as much as it is going to focus on Andrew Cunanan and his weird and twisted mind.
Which isn’t exactly surprising. This is, after all, a Ryan Murphy show. Last night, there were some amazing moments between Donatella and Antonio showing the truth of their relationship. They did not like each other and only were a “family” because that is what Gianni wanted when he got sick.
The minute he was dead? Not so much. But going back and forth between what was happening after his assassination and how we got there in the first place was relatively wild. The show focused a lot of time and energy on the nature of Andrew Cunanan’s mental state.
That makes sense because they’re showing us that he was being hunted for already having killed 4 men and that if a man he almost killed would have just called it in, Versace may have lived. But then again, when it was called in they still couldn’t find him.
Do I like that they are focusing all this time on Andrew? Not particularly, but I do like that there was an entire scene where he just screamed along to the song “Gloria” because I feel that.
