Taylor Swift Song of the Week: “All Too Well”
By Kara Johnson
After a day worth of voting for your favorite Taylor Swift song from her fourth studio album RED, the results for our Song of the Week are finally in. Did your favorite make the cut?
You voted speedily for several songs from RED but only one song came out stronger than the rest? It came down to “Begin Again” and “All Too Well” but with a slightly higher reach, “All Too Well” won the title for Song of the Week.
The piano-driven track has been a fan favorite for years now and is quite possibly Swift’s greatest song of all time. Yes, we said it. “All Too Well” is brilliantly written as it paints a beautiful picture of a story of finding love, losing it and losing yourself in the process.
The track was the first song Swift wrote for RED, and according to Swift, it was the hardest song to write for the album, and we believe her. it took me a really long time to filter through everything I wanted to put in the song without it being a 10-minute song, which you can’t put on an album. I wanted a story that could work in the form of a song and I called my co-writer Liz Rose and said, ‘Come over, we’ve gotta filter this down,’ and it took me a really long time to get it.”
“All Too Well” is the longest song from RED and to this day, fans still rave about it. How could they not? It’s a brilliant track and there is no way any other artist could do it justice. Fans love the song so much that Swift surprised them by performing it at the Grammy’s.
And there she goes, adding subtle hints and intricate details to a song and turning it into legendary heartbreak. Storytelling is a part of who Swift is and “All Too Well” displays that perfectly.
