During ESPN’s 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship, the new trailer for Marvel’s Black Panther dropped, leaving fans in awe.

Since Marvel released its first trailer for Black Panther, fans have eagerly awaited another taste of the forthcoming blockbuster. Their wishes were granted during ESPN’s 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship. The latest trailer for the film dropped following Kendrick Lamar’s half-time performance, and it showcased a number of new and promising clips.

The trailer opens with a conversation between Klaw (Andy Serkis) and Everett K. Ross (Martin Freeman), in which Ross exclaims, “You’re telling me that the king of a third-world country runs around in a bullet proof cat suit?” Sounds crazy, right?

The camera then flashes to Chadwick Boseman dressed in that very suit, taking down his enemies with ease. If his performance in Captain America: Civil War didn’t convince you that he’s meant to play T’Challa, the fight scenes in this trailer certainly will.

The trailer also features several shots of Wakanda, the fictional African nation the Black Panther hails from. The film appears to do the setting justice, from its advanced technology to its in-depth military training.

Lupita Nyong’o and Michael B. Jordan also appear in the trailer, though with very different relationships to T’Challa. Nyong’o’s character, Nakia, reveres him, while Jordan’s character serves as a dangerous adversary. It will be interesting to see how these relationships play out during the film, and whether they deviate from the comics at all.

A promising new story

From what we’ve seen so far, it seems inevitable that Black Panther will be a groundbreaking addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With a diverse and talented cast, and a setting that has barely been explored on the big screen, it’s sure to stand out from anything else we’ve seen.
