It’s a new year, and we’re starting off the year right by giving you our Song of the Week. It’s rather fitting for the day, and it’s certainly a fan favorite.
Our song of the week is “New Years Day,” the closing track from Swift’s most recent album reputation. It’s a piano-driven track, giving the album a nice final touch and as Jack Antanoff describes it, a look to the future.
“New Years Day” is different than any other track on reputation. It’s calm and settling but in a way, we believe that’s symbolic. After a messy year, Swift is ready to let the dust settle. She no longer cares what people think of her. It’s January 1, a new beginning and a beginning where Swift is happily moving on with the one she loves the most.
We hear a lot on reputation but “New Years Day” brings us full circle and gives us a glimpse into what we think could be coming next. Swift is done with the drama and now, the beautiful symbol of peace is interwoven throughout track 15. It’s simply one of the most beautiful tracks the songstress has ever done. If “New Years Day” is a hint at the future, we can’t wait to see more of her.
