Fandom 250: Where do Game of Thrones and Star Wars rank?

facebooktwitterreddit

Both the fandoms of Star Wars and Game of Thrones are among the top fandoms in the world on FanSided’s Fandom 250, but where do they rank?

We here at Culturess are part of the FanSided network, and we’re pleased to announce that this year’s edition of the Fandom 250, a ranking of the best, most passionate fandoms around the world, and not only is Game of Thrones in the top five, but so is Star Wars, two of our great passions around here.

But Game of Thrones outstrips Star Wars in the second position, while Star Wars is fourth, and between them is Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, meaning that the worlds of entertainment took three out of the five top spots! (Granted, I’m especially biased, since I wrote the justification for Star Wars as the world’s best fandom over on our sister site, Dork Side of the Force.)

Is it any surprise, though, that both Game of Thrones and Star Wars are up there? Both fandoms are completely and totally devoted — even when we’re almost certainly not going to see Game of Thrones‘ final season until 2019?

Now, to be fair, we do also know the top ranking, and it’s the Ohio State fanbase.

But, in the top 10, there’s a lot of our favorites around here: Beyoncé is there in the seventh position, Taylor Swift rounds things out at 10th, and Netflix is in sixth place. Meanwhile, Wonder Woman herself is in 19th, and Star Trek makes it in at 17th. (Apologies to all the Trekkies out there who aren’t sure how to feel about Star Wars outstripping the long-running franchise.)

It’s totally possible to sort things by category as well, so you can see where the fanbases of your favorite shows, movies, celebrities, Internet famous people, musicians, video games, comics and brands all stack up head to head against each other. Or, of course, you can just look at the full-blown rankings, 250 strong.
