After running a poll asking you, the fans what your favorite song was off Taylor Swift’s sixth studio album reputation, you let your voice be heard and without hesitation, we can proudly say that “Delicate” is our winner and Song of the Week.
“Delicate” is a raw, emotional track that tells a story of the very beginning of a relationship. The uncertainty throughout the song is on purpose and displays the feelings that Swift was trying to convey in a perfect light. The media doesn’t get much attention in this song but she does speak about her reputation and trying to handle the beginning stages of this relationship in a delicate way.
“My reputation’s never been worse so, you must like me for me,” she sings in the pre-chorus, which is one of the best lyrics on reputation. While others may think poorly of her, this guy loves her no matter what. He sees the best in her when everyone else would rather judge. Throughout the song, the listener learns that Swift knows how delicate the situation is but she’s willing to push that line if the lover is. She wants to push the relationship forward, even in the midst of uncertainty.
“Delicate” is one of the most vulnerable songs Swift has ever written, and it gives us a small glimpse into her classic songwriting abilities. Sure, Swift may have penned a song filled with fear and uncertainty before but this one is different. She reminds us that she’s human just like us and sometimes she’s nervous, shy, and uncertain about situations in her life. “Delicate” is a beautiful masterpiece all on its own and Swift has done a perfectly good job displaying real moments of vulnerability throughout the song.
